Canopy: K-12 Environmental Education Intern

Canopy offers K-12 programs and high school internships to support the urban forest in Midpeninsula communities. The K-12 Environmental Education Intern will assist with tree-focused lessons at elementary schools, support the Junior Forester Leader Program, and participate in the Wellness Walk program. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and organized, and the paid internship offers valuable experience in environmental education and urban forestry concepts

About Canopy

Canopy is an environmental nonprofit that plants and cares for trees where people need them the most. Its mission is to grow the urban tree canopy in the Midpeninsula communities for the benefit of all. The organization envisions a day when every resident of the San Francisco Midpeninsula can step outside and walk, play and thrive under the shade of healthy trees.

Responsibilities

  • Classroom management, small group leadership, and 1:1 student assistance with elementary

    school lessons and/or Junior Forester Leaders sessions.

  • Preparing and organizing lesson materials..

  • Facilitating communication with teachers.

  • Record-keeping, including logging Salesforce entries.

  • Creating educational activities for tablings and community events as needed.

  • Supporting management of education volunteers as needed.

  • Researching and developing new content/curriculum as requested.

  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Desired skills and Knowledge

  • Experience and/or interest in education, particularly environmental education.

  • Experience working with youth in PreK - 12.

  • Able to support an inclusive and culturally relevant learning environment.

  • Flexible self-starter and motivated independent worker.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Works well with a team.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
