On October 3, 2022, for the first time, over 150+ participants gathered together for the Climate Summit for San Mateo County.

The first annual Climate Summit for San Mateo County was hosted by Thrive Alliance and their co-hosts, Climate Resilient Communities, Nuestra Casa, and Rise South City. The event was held in October 2022 and brought together over 250 individuals from different sectors, including academia, government, community-based organizations, and philanthropy.

The primary objective of the Climate Summit was to build a collective commitment towards adaptation and equity in San Mateo County. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about the adaptation needs of frontline communities in the county and how to bring communities and community-based organizations to the forefront of addressing climate change.

The Climate Summit was successful in creating stronger relationships between communities and all sectors, thereby shifting power dynamics and building collective commitments to actions that ensure communities in the county are prepared for and protected from climate change.

Overall, the first annual Climate Summit was a success, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders to address climate change and build a more sustainable future for San Mateo County. We hope to build on the momentum of this event and continue working towards a more resilient and equitable future for all.
