Villages of San Mateo County (VSMC) is seeking a full-time Volunteer Manager who will be responsible for the overall management of the volunteer program. The Volunteer Manager works in partnership with leaders in the three villages (Sequoia, Mid-Peninsula, and Village of the Coastside) to ensure that volunteer engagement is maximized and there is seamless support for our volunteers. The Volunteer Manager reports to the Executive Director.

The Villages of San Mateo County (VSMC) is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes volunteers to support senior neighbors and create an active community for aging adults. They serve a large part of San Mateo County and are primarily volunteer-driven, with a small staff team. VSMC's focus is on providing support services to help members age with grace and dignity while maintaining independence in their homes and communities.
Qualifications
A proven team player comfortable working in collaborative relationships.
A strong communicator with diverse groups and individuals; comfort speaking publicly.
Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
Proven project management, highly organized with strong attention to detail, and record keeping. Ability to plan and execute events.
Proven skills in team building: able to encourage volunteer leadership and coach and empower.
Flexible workstyle with the ability to manage change and ambiguity while working in an environment with multiple demands.
Technologically capable: proficient with digital communications, MS Office and Google Suite. Capable of using databases and generating routine and ad hoc reports. Quick study, willing to learn our database management system.
Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit setting.
Familiarity and/or knowledge of the unique challenges of working with an aging population preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
Volunteer Outreach and Recruitment: Identify new outreach and recruitment opportunities; strengthen outreach messaging, materials and processes; support Village outreach efforts; make public presentations.
Volunteer Onboarding, Orientation and Training: Welcome new volunteers, answer questions and assist with application process. Conduct Orientation sessions and develop volunteer training, as needed.
Collaboration with Individual Village Leaders: Work closely with Village leaders to understand incoming volunteers’ interests and skills; serve as a resource to address challenges; share practices and procedures that increase volunteer engagement.
Engagement and Retention: Monitor volunteer engagement and provide support and encouragement; especially when volunteer activity wanes. Cultivate volunteer affinity groups.
Volunteer Appreciation: Lead annual Volunteer Appreciation event; create and support smaller volunteer gatherings; develop routine appreciation strategies.
Data Management and Learning: Track monthly volunteer hours and quantify contributions; gather volunteer satisfaction feedback and develop strategies to continually improve volunteer experience.
COmpensation and Benefits
This is full-time exempt position with a salary range of $68,000 to $72,000, depending upon experience. Benefits include a healthcare stipend and 3 weeks of paid time off and 12 holidays.
