Thrive Alliance: Community Resilience Specialist

The Community Resilience Specialist will support the Director of Community Resilience in building the capacity of its community resilience programming as well as the COAD network through improved communications, event and training support, and engagement with nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses. The Community Resilience Specialist will also support other community resilience projects and initiatives related to community-based response, climate adaptation and seismic safety. The balance between COAD-specific activities and other disaster risk reduction activities may shift depending on the time of year and whether a disaster has recently occurred or is expected to occur. During emergencies, all other types of tasks are typically paused while efforts shift to tasks related to the emergency.

About Thrive Alliance

Thrive Alliance is a network of over 200 nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses across San Mateo County, with a focus on capacity building, cross-sector collaboration, and policy and advocacy work primarily in the areas of immigration, housing, community resilience, and sustainability. Thrive leads the countywide coalition of Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD), which is responsible for coordinating the nonprofit sector to respond to unmet community needs during and after disasters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission of Thrive, appreciation for community nonprofits, and  support for the organization's strategic goals 

  • Strong familiarity with the nonprofit sector and cross-sector collaboration

  • Knowledge and/or experience with the discipline of disaster risk reduction and emergency management

  • Background in geography, environmental studies, health, or related field

  • Strong writing and communication skills

  • Commitment to integrating equity into all aspects of disaster risk reduction

  • Experience with Google Suite, Hubspot, Canva, and Squarespace, or similar applications is highly desirable

  • Lived experience that makes you right for this role

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying new partners and projects related to community resilience

  • Supporting implementation of special projects and programs

  • Supporting the development of issue-specific committees for the COAD network

  • Coordinating in-person and online training for COAD partners related to disaster risk reduction

  • Developing content for community resilience and COAD communications

  • Updating the Thrive website with relevant content

  • Supporting rapid network communications and meetings during emergencies

  • Supporting the development of emergency response plans

COmpensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience. The salary range is $60,000-$70,000 per year.
