There With Care of the Bay Area: Volunteer Engagement Lead

There With Care’s extensive volunteering community includes dedicated, caring, and diverse individuals, families, corporate employees, students, philanthropy/service group members, faith community members, and others. Over 425 core volunteers engage their family members, friends, neighbors, employees, and faith/social group members to annually provide 14,000+ hours of time, talent, and treasures in support of families. Volunteer experiences are in-person, remote, and virtual. Volunteering is continuous throughout the year, at various locations along the Peninsula, in San Francisco, and into the South Bay.  

About There With Care of the Bay Area

There With Care is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a wide range of meaningful and fundamental services to families and children during the critical phase of a medical crisis. Families with a child who has a critical illness are referred by medical social workers from local hospitals. There With Care builds support around families through a community of people and a network of services. Each family’s services are individualized to ease the challenges of life’s dayto-day obligations with compassion and care. There With Care was founded in 2005 in Colorado and There With Care of the Bay Area was founded in 2011.

Qualities

  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating partnerships, leading volunteers, and/or leading group projects.

  • Skilled in interacting and communicating with individuals and groups, embracing principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging. 

  • Strong communication skills, with experience in writing invitational emails, verbally presenting information, and/or promoting volunteer opportunities, and/or liaising with community and corporate leaders. 

  • Comfort making plans, coordinating logistics, and handling challenges and changes. 

  • Demonstrated use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience using (i) databases – Salesforce preferred, (ii) online tools and calendars – Zoom, Google Calendar, and/or DropBox preferred, (iii) volunteer recruitment platforms – SignUp and/or VolunteerMatch preferred.  

  • Travel as needed for corporate and community volunteer activities – San Francisco, Peninsula, and South Bay. (Non-commute mileage and parking reimbursed).

  • Willingness to flex work hours, with advanced planning, to include one weekday evening and one half-day on a Saturday or Sunday once a month. 

  • Has physical skills and abilities to perform work that requires sitting, bending, and lifting and carrying items up to 40lbs. 

Responsibilities

  • Support the engagement of 300+ adult volunteers, often accompanied by children/youth, providing in-person/direct support to families, making 3,000+ Family Deliveries annually. 

  • Lead/co-lead Volunteer Trainings and Orientations, in-person and virtual, at There With Care, corporate, education, and community locations. 

  • Lead/co-lead community members, new and active, coming together in groups of all sizes to collect, donate and/or purchase food and essential items, and make a variety of care bags for inclusion in the care packages delivered to families. 

  • Identify and embrace opportunities to cultivate new and existing partnerships, engaging organizations and volunteers in ways that are meaningful, have strategic impact, and are inclusive. 

  • Actively contribute during meetings, participate in idea discussions, and conduct research to help strengthen the infrastructure of volunteer engagement to support the sustainable growth of programs and services for families. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues throughout the organization – Programs, Operations, Development and Finance – while promoting, recognizing, and appreciating the invaluable care and positive impact the volunteering community brings to families and children throughout their medical crisis. 

  • Maintain accurate information; respond to emails, calls, and texts; onboard volunteers; track and document volunteers’ activities; enter data and run reports; communicate updates and changes.
