Nuestra Casa is seeking an Interim Executive Director to provide temporary leadership and strategic oversight while the Executive Director is on leave. This role ensures organizational March 2025 stability, financial health, and effective program management. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, experience in financial oversight and management, fundraising expertise, and operational leadership skills.
About Nuestra Casa de East Palo Alto:
Nuestra Casa has been serving the needs of the immigrant Latino population of East Palo Alto and surrounding communities since 2002. Our organization rose out of a community assessment conducted by a group of local activists who were concerned about the growing needs of the rising immigrant population. Today, Nuestra Casa is positioned as the premier Latino serving nonprofit in our community. Over the past five years, our growth has allowed us to expand our services and programming into neighboring communities like Menlo Park (Belle Haven region) and Redwood City. Through our advocacy efforts, we also reach other communities in San Mateo County.
Responsibilities
Financial Management:
Ensures sound financial practices and collaborates with management to maintain the organization’s budget.
Works closely with the Board Treasurer and accounting company to prepare and present financial reports to the Board.
Nurtures relationships with key funding partners at all levels.
Stays up-to-date on changes in county, state, and federal grant regulations.
Fund Development:
In collaboration with the Development Director, secures funding for the organization’s long-term sustainability while ensuring support for ongoing programs.
Partners with the Development Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement a fundraising strategy that enhances the quality of services and supports growth initiatives.
With the Development Director, Develops and executes strategies for corporate, foundation, and government fundraising, diversifying revenue streams.
Works with the Development Director to expand the pool of unrestricted funds to provide financial flexibility.
Works with the Development Director to implement donor engagement plans to build and sustain long-term relationships.
Works with the Development Director to oversee fundraising campaigns, ensuring they align with Nuestra Casa’s mission and provides updates to the Board of Directors.
Programming:
Collaborates with program leads to review and adjust program models to ensure their effectiveness and relevance, incorporating evidence-based practices. March 2025
Implements processes that support continuous learning and improvement of program delivery, ensuring the organization’s services meet evolving needs.
Provides professional development opportunities and coaching for staff and fosters an environment conducive to attracting new talent.
Manages a strong program team, creating an organizational structure that maximizes service quality and impact.
Leadership & Management:
Ensures the organization's infrastructure supports growth, development, and smooth day-to-day operations.
Oversees the organization’s compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Coaches and supports high-performing management staff to improve organizational capacity.
Keeps the Board of Directors informed of any personnel or organizational changes.
In collaboration with the Operations Manager, provides oversight of daily operations, ensuring resources are used efficiently and effectively.
In collaboration with program leads, tracks the organization’s progress toward meeting long-term strategic goals.
Helps the Board fulfill its fiduciary and management duties.
In collaboration with the leadership team Implements policy decisions from the Board to address new goals, improve performance, and resolve issues
External Relations:
In collaboration with staff, builds and strengthens relationships with local government, school districts, and other key entities to advance Nuestra Casa’s mission.
Coaches staff to develop partnerships with other nonprofit organizations, networks, and coalitions to increase the impact of the organization’s programs.
Coaches staff to represent the organization at important community events and meetings, raising awareness of Nuestra Casa’s work.
In collaboration with staff, promotes Nuestra Casa’s mission through media outreach and strategic public relations.
In collaboration with staff, positions Nuestra Casa as a prominent external entity by sharing successes and advocating for the replication of successful programs on a regional and national scale.
Operational Excellence & Streamlined Processes:
In collaboration with the leadership team, optimizes organizational resources, processes, and staffing to enhance overall operational efficiency.
Ensures all operations comply with established policies and procedures that align with organizational goals.
Identifies and mitigates operational risks, ensuring continuity of services during challenging times

Qualifications
10+ years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, fund development, marketing and public relations with a minimum of 5 years experience as an executive leader with overall responsibility for strategic direction, fiscal management and long-term initiatives.
Recognized leader in the community with a passion for advocating on issues that are relevant to our community members.
Knowledgeable about the plight of low-income East Palo Alto residents and the broader San Mateo County population.
Demonstrated ability to influence public policy and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, community representatives, and political leaders.
Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of multi-racial and other diverse communities.
Demonstrated commitment to social /environmental justice.
Bilingual, bicultural - Spanish/English (Preferred, but not required) .
Strong communication skills, verbal and written. Understands and stays abreast of technology and social media changes.
Graduate degree (Masters, Ph.D.) in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business or a related field preferred.
Sound judgment in leading and managing people.
Demonstrated experience managing/sharing community resources and diverse funding streams.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and insured motor vehicle.
Compensation
The Interim Executive Director position will pay $100–125 an hour. This position is part-time 10-15 hours per week. Does not offer medical/dental/vision benefits or vacation time. Sick time is accrued according to CA standards.
