JobTrain: Employer Engagement Liaison

Job train is seeking an Employer Engagement Liaison. This role is a newly created position in the Career Training & Education (CTE) department at JobTrain with access to a wealth of institutional knowledge through the sector-based career training program staff. This position reports to the Manager of Career Development. The position will have the unique opportunity to develop a new Employer Engagement Framework and Best Practices to reflect today’s rapidly changing workforce and employer needs. This position provides strategy, employer engagement, and support to JobTrain’s sector-based career training programs across all Bay Area locations.

This is a hybrid position based in Menlo Park, CA.

Qualifications

  • In depth experience with results-focused Employer Engagement

  • Minimum of 2 years of Employer Engagement / Business Development, or a combination of both.

  • Proven success in learning or working within a multitude of industrial sectors (e.g., Construction, Retail, IT, Transportation/Warehousing, Healthcare, etc.)

  • Covid-19 Certification

Required Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Ability to build long term relationships with functional line managers and HR leaders

  • Strong reporting capabilities, with the ability to dive into data management and business intelligence tools as needed

  • Self-starter and relatively self-managed; able to take initiative to learn and ask for help when needed

  • Existing network of potential local employers is a plus. At minimum, candidate will have creative ideas and potential action plan for how to best generate the partnerships necessary, keeping in mind the types of opportunities the population is seeking (meeting clients where they are).

  • Demonstrated maturity and cultural competency for working with diverse populations; comfortable networking and building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills required both verbal and written

  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends

  • Must provide proof of COVID vaccination (per applicable law)

  • Additional Experience Preferred:

    • Experience building an Employer Engagement Program from the ground up

    • Familiarity with Salesforce or other comprehensive database tool, as well as labor market index tools (LMI)

    • Some sales or business development experience preferred

    • Must be able to travel to different sites as needed, within Santa Clara & San Mateo Counties, including evenings and weekends

responsibilities and tasks

  • Develop and implement an impactful sector-based Employer Engagement Strategy for all JobTrain career training programs based on a deep understanding of JobTrain and relevant labor markets

    • In collaboration with leadership and Career Training and Education (CTE) staff, lead the development and implementation of a contemporary employer engagement approach and strategy for all JobTrain locations across the Bay Area.

    • Develop an impactful Employer Engagement strategy and “sales pitch” based on an understanding of JobTrain’s deep and rich history in the Bay Area, highlighting the many unique aspects that make our programs and services a great value to the community and to employers.

    • Establish and maintain an in-depth knowledge of local labor markets; specifically understanding challenges and issues affecting hiring trends for identified sectors. Today, these include Construction Trades, Information Technology, Health and Culinary Arts.

  • Identify and partner with employers to develop and delivery impactful Employer Engagement programs.

    • Effectively seek out strategic, sector-based employers who are willing to provide work experience, placements and employment opportunities to our students and clients at a range of seniorities, from entry level to mid-level positions.

    • Develop professional, long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with employers aimed at optimizing opportunities for JobTrain students and clients including job placement, internships, work shadowing, and mentoring.

    • Establish an Employer Advisory Committee (EAC) framework, metrics, and goals

    • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion with a wide range of employers, both aimed at onboarding employers with open and transparent hiring practices but also to educate employers on how to remove barriers to employment

  • Develop and formalize processes and metrics to support and track Employer Engagement activities and results

    • Refine and formalize the process for New Employer Orientation and Employer Relationship Management

    • Communicate and collaborate regularly with CTE sector-based staff (instructors and career development specialists) and Manager of Career Development, ensuring all Employer Engagement is consistent and team members are accountable for the driving the workflow successfully across JobTrain

    • Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) established to measure success of Employer Engagement Program, specifically job placements and retention reports

    • Build a system of record for Employer Engagement, including processes for internal referrals from staff

    • Travel to different sites as needed, within Santa Clara & San Mateo Counties, including some evenings and weekends

salary and benefits

  • This position is targeted to pay between $71,000 - $83,000 per year
