Friends for Youth: Development Associate

Friends for Youth is looking for a Development Associate. The Development Associate plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s fundraising, donor engagement, and communication efforts. This entry-level position reports to the Senior Development Coordinator and offers hands-on experience in nonprofit development, event planning, and community outreach. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and passionate about youth development and social impact.

Responsibilities

  • Fundraising Support

  • Manage fundraising platforms and donor databases (Salesforce)

  • Assist in donor communications, including thank-you letters, updates, and appeals

  • Support the planning and execution of Besties Recurring Donor Campaign, Giving Tuesday and the Annual Campaign

  • Support with grant writing and reporting Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and manage social media content to engage the community

  • Design newsletters, marketing materials, and digital campaigns using Canva and Mailchimp according to the brand guidelines

  • Collect and share impact stories and blog posts showcasing program success

  • Assist with media relations and identify opportunities to raise FFY’s visibility

  • Event & Community Engagement

  • Help organize fundraising events like the Annual Spring Gala and Annual Fall Besties Event, including vendor coordination, sponsorship outreach, and event logistics

  • Represent Friends for Youth at community and partnership events

  • Support group mentorship programs by developing session plans and facilitating discussions on social justice, life skills, and personal development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish-speaking highly preferred

  • Knowledge of local community resources

  • Experience in public speaking, event planning, or donor relations

  • Able to commute to Palo Alto, California Tuesdays-Thursday and sometimes weekends Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit work, communications, or related fields

  • 1+ years of relevant experience (internships or volunteer work count!)

Compensation

  • Part-Time non-exempt (20-30 hours weekly), $20-$24 an hour Hybrid: in office in Palo Alto, California Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday
