Peninsula Health Care District is seeking an Active Aging Specialist. The role of the PHCD Active Aging Specialist is to ensure exceptional customer service and smooth operations at the center. We are seeking someone who is passionate about health and wellness and is dedicated to transforming the lives of older adults. Ideally, candidates should have experience working with older adults and a strong desire to inspire and motivate them to lead active, healthy lives.

Since December 2, 1947, Peninsula Health Care District (PHCD), governed by a publicly elected 5-member board of directors, has addressed the community’s health needs. What started as building, owning, and governing Peninsula Hospital, has today developed into bringing health-focused programs and services to the community, to help residents achieve their optimal health. For more than seven decades, PHCD has been the community’s partner in good health.

Qualifications

  • Certifications/Licenses

    • CPR/AED Certification

    • Fitness Certification (NASM, NSCA, ACE, etc.)

    • BLS/First Aid

    Education 

    • Minimum of high school diploma or GED

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field of health/fitness preferred, or experience equivalent to five years in the industry 

Responsibilies

  • Senior Wellness

    • Connect members with local senior-friendly services, such as transportation, meal/grocery delivery, pharmacy pickups, or home healthcare.

    • Maintain a directory of free or low-cost community resources like senior activity centers, libraries, and parks.

    • Build relationships with local businesses and agencies (relevant to our population and mission) to offer exclusive discounts or services.

    • Establish a network of agencies that helps increase access to HFC services/programming and provide basic needs.

    • Help members find local volunteering opportunities that suit their interests and abilities.

    • Develop socialization programming, and lead activities.

    • Collaborate with senior case managers to connect seniors with services.

    Customer Service

    • Register members, schedule appointments, process payments, etc.

    • Answer phone, greet members and guests, conduct tours, answer questions about our fitness center.

    • Understanding of insurance providers available at the HFC.

    • Check and restock supplies such as coffee, tea, cups, towels, etc.

    Fitness

    • Provide fitness evaluations in accordance with Fitness Center procedures, industry standards, and ACSM guidelines.

    • Design and implement appropriate exercise programs for members, including those with special needs.

    • Develop and deliver a variety of senior-focused fitness classes, such as strength training, low-impact aerobics, balance exercises, and stretching routines. Yoga, Pilates, Barre, Zumba, dancing are a plus.

    • Teach fitness techniques and proper form to minimize injury and maximize benefits.

    • Ensure proper use of fitness equipment and maintain a safe environment during classes.

    • Stay informed on the latest fitness trends, techniques, and guidelines for older adults.

    • Assist with HFC specialized programs i.e. diabetes prevention program, fall prevention, and more.

    • Conduct classes at center and satellite locations, as well as personal and small group training sessions.

    • Maintain and acquire fitness certifications as needed by HFC.

    Outreach

    • Help with membership recruitment 

    • Participate in community outreach/engagement events 

    Communications

    • Develop a content calendar to ensure consistent posting across all media platforms.

    • Align content with seasonal events, special promotions, and community themes relevant to seniors.

    • Create engaging graphics, photos, and videos showcasing fitness classes, events, and success stories.

    • Capture moments of member interaction and participation to highlight the community's spirit.

    • Draft educational posts on topics like senior fitness tips, wellness advice, and healthy living.

    • Draft newsletter articles about health and wellness as needed.

    • Help HFC Director maintain and update HFC website with the most relevant up-to-date information.

     Other duties as assigned.

COmpensation and Benefits

  • $28/hour

  • 40 hours/week - morning and evening shift
