Chan Zuckerberg Initiative: Community Space Receptionist

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is seeking a Community Space Receptionist. The Receptionist contractor will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Community Space, creating a positive and lasting impression on everyone who enters the doors. The responsibilities will include overseeing reception and onsite operational support. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

About Chan Zuckerberg Initiative:

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), established in 2015, aims to tackle societal challenges such as disease eradication, educational improvement, and addressing community needs. CZI directly engages with communities, partners with them to identify solutions, and collaborates to develop community-centered initiatives. CZI supports local organizations and community members in building a more inclusive, just, and healthy future through the CZI Community Space, which provides free meeting and event space for organizations to convene, collaborate, and host events and programs that support the local community. Grantees are empowered to lead event programming focused on supporting local arts and culture, building community, and supporting non-profit leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Reception

    • Greet and welcome guests in a warm and friendly manner

    • Resolve member feedback and issues effectively

    • Go above and beyond to exceed guest expectations

    • Provide on-site support during events

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure Community Space

    • Perform routine administrative duties and communication using G Suite, Slack, and Jira ticketing system

    • Opening and closing duties

    Operational Support

    • Act as the liaison between the Community Space Program Manager and the Central Events Team

    • Comply with all company and site policies and procedures

    • Setup and breakdown of furniture

    • General clean-up of the space

    • Order and maintain supplies (furniture, linens, coffee, office supplies)

    • Report any damages and issues within the space

    • Report and log lost and found items

    • Troubleshoot and report AV issues

    • Act as a point of contact for deliveries, services, and vendors

    • Provide ad-hoc support upon request for events, projects, and other internal affairs, including coverage for other site locations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of college coursework

  • 2+ years of experience in a front-facing role (i.e., customer service, receptionist, or hospitality industry)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Responsible and conscientious decision-maker with integrity, excellent judgment, and respect for confidentiality and ethics

  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and last-minute requests.the ability to react positively and quickly to last-minute changes in logistics or needs; comfort with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced, start-up culture

  • Technology-proficient; comfortable communicating virtually and learning new tools

  • Experience in GSuite, Jira, and Slack. Adaptable to learning and utilizing new software platforms as required

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly

  1. Nice to have:

    • Knowledge of the San Mateo County landscape, including nonprofits, government agencies, and other organizations

    • Security access control and basic security experience

COmpensation and Benefits

  • $25/hr - $30/hr
