Hike-a-Palooza # 4 - Crystal Springs Regional Trail

Location - Crystal Springs Resevir

Description -On the Crystal Springs Regional Trail, we’ll cover 4 miles roundtrip of the lower Sawyer Camp Segment. Sights include 2 reservoirs, a 600-year old Laurel tree, and the 1776 Spanish expedidon footsteps to SF. Food & beer follow at Wursthall Restaurant & Bierhaus in San Mateo.

Pre-hike reading - Electric cars emit less CO2 over their lifetime than diesels even when powered with dirtiest electricity

On hike #4, our 16 fast paced hikers covered 6 miles in 2 hours on the lower Sawyer Camp Segment. Under breezy blue skies, the reservoir glistened and provided a perfect sedng for conversaaon and exercise. Appropriately, I learned about SMC water sources, management, and emergency availability from a fellow environmental leader. Great food & beer followed at Wursthall Restaurant & Bierhaus in San Mateo. More pictures below.

Six fantastic featured speakers, all experts and leaders in their disciplines. Excellent discussion followed.

Recap

The March 2019 E&S TAG convened six sustainable food experts to share their challenges and success with the audience of 27. Titled Food & Footprint, the program’s topics covered sustainable and humane farming, urban agriculture, and equitable consumption.

Notably, expertise spanned the entire food lifecycle -- healthy land preparation, responsible farming, transportation & preparation, thoughtful consumption, and leftover & recovery -- and exposed the complexity of collaboration necessary to reach a shared set of goals.
