First 5 San Mateo County Culture of Care Convening

A Culture of Care: Trauma-Informed Practices for Family-Serving Systems

First 5 San Mateo County and its Trauma- and Resiliency-Informed Systems Initiative partners are proud to host A Culture of Care: Trauma-Informed Practices for Family-Serving Systems on November 18th, 2019 at the Sobrato Redwood Shores Community Conference Center.

Join community partners and nationally-recognized experts for a day of learning and reflection about how to transform the way we serve young children and their families in San Mateo County.

This event is free to attend. Registration will be open until Nov. 8th, or until registration has reached capacity. Space is limited, so please register early!

Purpose

Traumatic events and adverse childhood experiences have long-term impacts on individual, family, and community health and well-being. In light of this, it is imperative for systems serving children and families to understand a child and family’s trauma history and risk, and actively work to design and deliver services that feel safe, respectful, and healing for everyone we serve.

First 5 San Mateo County and its multisector partners have been working to draft a roadmap for building a trauma- and resiliency-informed system of care for young children and their families. We believe the work must start with organizations that feel safe, respectful, and healing for their staff. Caring for others requires caring for ourselves, and our ability to do that well is embedded in institutional policies, practices, and culture.

Who should attend

We welcome systems leaders and service providers in San Mateo County from any sector that serves young children and/or adult caregivers of young children, including health, early childhood education, child welfare, housing, criminal justice, and more.

We ask that organizations send a team of 2-5 people, with at least one who is in a management level position, and one who works primarily with clients and community members. Large agencies may register multiple teams representing different sites or departments. First 5 reserves the right to limit the number of teams from a single agency, as we would like to include as many different groups as possible. Please contact us if you have questions about this policy.

* This event is sold out.
