The second annual Climate Summit of San Mateo County was a resounding success! Thank you to our co-hosts Nuestra Casa, Climate Resilient Communities, and Rise South City as well as our generous sponsors for their support in putting on this vital event.
This yearβs theme was βBuilding Power for Community Resilienceβ and we gathered stakeholders from CBOs, academia, youth leaders, business, government, and more. With over 300 in attendance in South San Francisco on October 11, 2023, people from across San Mateo County gathered to address climate change and its effects on our local community, and build relationships. We strategically selected the north county as the host location for the Summit to shine a spotlight on an area in San Mateo County that is underrepresented by the nonprofit sector and requires additional support.
Senator Josh Becker described the Summit to the San Mateo Daily Journal as follows: βThe Climate Summit for San Mateo County was an amazing convening of the climate efforts that are taking place locally and regionally. Kudos to Thrive Alliance for giving organizations a chance to collaborate on the climate challenges facing our communities. I particularly appreciated the recognition of the issues facing our disadvantaged communities, and I am grateful for the proposed solutions for every part of my district.β This highlights the accomplished goal of the Summit to amplify community voices and ensure that our representatives accurately represent the needs of the community. By considering the wise and informed ideas of our dignified community, officials can make decisions that effectively address the challenges we face.
