Thrive RISE: Issue Area Committees
Thrive is excited to introduce four issue-specific working groups to support disaster planning and risk reduction initiatives in the areas of children and childcare; older adults and Access and Functional Needs (AFN); mental health and spiritual care; and food security. Thank you to Sequoia Healthcare District for supporting this initiative to expand the work of the COAD.
Our goal of the committee structure is to:
Reduce community risk areas during a disaster by
Defining the roles that specific organizations may play in disasters
Developing collaborative plans and projects
Build organizational knowledge and capacity in disaster
Strengthen inter-organizational relationships
Committee meetings are meant to serve as a forum for organizations working in the same issue areas to define the biggest risks to their clients and work in the context of disaster, and develop strategies for collectively reducing that risk through planning, information sharing, projects, or public education.
Each committee will have 1-2 committee chairs, with 5-10 organizations as members. Nonprofits, congregations, community organizations, and agencies with expertise or interest in these issue areas are encouraged to join these committees either as members or chairs. on our interest form.
