Philanthropy: Addressing Racial Equity In The Time of COVID-19

Join Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center for a free live stream dialogue to learn about how philanthropy is addressing COVID-19 and racial disparities. There will be a discussion with special guests regarding their work in racial equity pre-COVID-19, how they have pivoted their efforts due to this pandemic, and their vision in advancing racial equity, practicing empathy and understanding differences.

Christian Arana, Policy Director at Latino Community Foundation

Christian Arana strongly believes in the promise of America, and that begins first with California’s estimated 15 million Latinos. As the Policy Director at LCF, Christian leads the foundation’s efforts to advance policy solutions that will improve the lives and political power of California’s Latinos. Christian received a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown University in International Politics.

Manuel J. Santamaria, Vice President, Community Impact at Silicon Valley Community Foundation

Manuel J. Santamaria oversees strategic initiatives and grantmaking to further SVCF’s role in addressing the region’s most challenging problems and improving communities and our quality of life. He manages the division’s operations and is a member of SVCF’s leadership team. Manuel joined SVCF in 1999 and has held a variety of roles, including grantmaking director, senior program officer in early learning and education, and immigrant integration. Manuel is currently a member of the board of directors of Mission Asset Fund, past treasurer of Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants (GCIR) and co-chair of the California Immigrant Integration Initiative. He has a bachelor's degree in international relations and a master's degree in public administration.

Sara Campos, Program Officer at The Grove Foundation

Sara Campos is a writer, lawyer, and currently a program officer at the Grove Foundation. After almost two decades of advocacy on behalf of immigrants and refugees, she obtained an MFA in creative writing from Mills College and has published fiction, poetry, and nonfiction in a number of publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and The Wandering Song: Central American Writing in the United States. She has also received fellowships from Hedgebrook, Mesa, Refuge, Letras Latinas, and the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley. She is a recipient of an Elizabeth George Foundation grant.
