Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County: Public Land for Public Good
Join the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County to learn more about using public land to provide affordable housing and other community benefits, and discover how you can get involved in supporting these initiatives in your community with South San Francisco Council Member James Coleman, JUHSD trustee, Kalimah Salahuddin, CA Assembly Member Alex Lee, and JUHSD Reach Coalition.
California’s legislature, as well as school districts and cities up and down the state, are increasingly turning towards using public land to provide much-needed affordable housing and other community benefits. At the state level, Assemblymember Alex Lee has been leading the charge to build mixed-income social housing. At the local level, Trustee Kalimah Salahuddin pioneered a project leasing public land to build affordable teacher housing while gaining revenue to pay teachers and fund various programs; and Councilmember James Coleman led the passage of a ballot measure allowing the city to construct social housing. Join this workshop to learn more about how public land can be used for the public good, how your jurisdiction can lead in building workforce and social housing, and how the state legislature can support these initiatives throughout the state of California.
