Conversation with State Senator Scott Wiener: Housing the Nonprofit Workforce and Clients - Opportunities and Challenges

This was a Joint Thrive Action Group (TAG) meeting.

State Senator Scott Wiener came to discuss what is foremost in many of our minds as we try to recruit and retain employees: Housing the Nonprofit Workforce and Clients - Opportunities and Challenges. The discussion, led by Bart Charlow, CEO of Samaritan House, went far beyond just SB50 as the Senator talked about a wide range of issues related to housing: how to make sure your message isn't co-opted, where legislation on rent control stands, how to define affordability and how that includes nonprofit workers, and what nonprofits should do to help ease the housing crisis (hint - Thrive Alliance will be following up on his suggestion that our legislators need to hear from nonprofits about their struggles, not just from housing advocates.) We are grateful for Senator Wiener for taking the time to have an in-depth conversation with us.
