Meet Rep Jackie Speier with Fixin' San Mateo County (Via Zoom)
Join Fixin’ San Mateo County to hear from Congresswoman Jackie Speier about why civilian oversight of the Sheriff is so important and how you can get involved.
Congresswoman Speier is a champion of women’s equality, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, and the disenfranchised. She has dedicated her life to eliminating government corruption while working to strengthen America’s national and economic security. She was named to Newsweek’s list of 150 “Fearless Women” in the world and one of “Politico's 50” most influential people in American politics for bringing the Me Too reckoning to Congress. She has served in Congress since 2008, after serving in the California State Senate and State Assembly and on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. She is not seeking re-election this year.
Fixin’ San Mateo County (FxSMC) is a local grassroots organization working to enact effective civilian oversight of the County Sheriff’s Office. Oversight is common sense and good government, providing transparency and accountability, supporting civil rights, and promoting effective policing. FxSMC is asking the Board of Supervisors to pass an ordinance this year to establish the framework for strong, independent oversight of the Sheriff’s Office.
