Discover Stanford for You: Creating Conversations Across Generations

Discover Stanford for You: Creating Conversations Across Generations

Join faculty from Stanford’s School of Humanities and Sciences as they consider how the humanities explore the ideas, cultures, and peoples that shape the human experience.

Stanford professors Yoshiko Matsumoto, Yamato Ichihashi Chair of Japanese History and Civilization, and Gabriella Safran, Eva Chernov Lokey Professor of Jewish Studies, will share H&S initiatives and Matsumoto’s research using the art of haiku to create a community inclusive of people at all stages of life. This session will also include reflections on the enduring importance of universities in preserving, producing, assessing, and transmitting knowledge and how the fundamentals of education - the pursuit of knowledge and truth - enrich our lives and are vital to preparing global citizens.

Opening remarks will be provided by Debra Satz, the Vernon R. and Lysbeth Anderson Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, the Marta Sutton Weeks Professor of Ethics in Society, Professor of Philosophy, and, by courtesy, Political Science.
