Children and Education Thrive Action Group (TAG) Peer Learning Series: Learning Hubs Initiative Updates and Success Stories
The Thrive Children & Education Peer Learning Series, which grew out of Thrive’s Out of School Task Force, will focus its 2021 efforts on mitigating learning loss in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic through various channels, including learning hubs, after school programs, early childhood education, and summer programs. The affinity group will meet monthly, and will be a space for providers to learn from each other and from both experts in the field and those investing in the work via government and philanthropy.
This first meeting will focus on updates from the Learning Hub Initiative and recruitment, retention and equity for learning hub providers from Heather Hopkins, of the Community Equity Collaborative, Linda Wolin, Senior Legislative Aide to Dave Pine. We will also have a special guest, Tim Garvin, President & CEO, United Way of Central Massachusetts. Tim will share insights from the successful Worcester Remote Learning Hub Collaborative, a model with 10 licensed providers and 95 classrooms that provides stability for 1000+ students.
Co-facilitators: Evan Jones, Executive Director, Mid-Peninsula Boys & Girls Club and Heather Cleary, CEO, Peninsula Family Service.
This series is made possible through the generous support of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
Partners: Community Equity Collaborative; County of San Mateo; InPlay; Offices of Supervisors Carole Groom and Dave Pine; San Mateo County Office of Education; Stanford Haas Center for Public Service.
